Written, produced and directed by Francois Ozon, who deftly walks a tonal tightrope in this quiet generational family drama which morphs into a slow burn crime thriller. It centres around retired grandmother Michelle living in rural Burgundy. When her estranged daughter visits to drop off her son to stay with his grandmother for the summer, she accidentally gets poisoned by foraged mushrooms. The family drama ensues with hidden secrets and tensions revealed, which are then increased by the arrival of Michelle’s best friend’s son, recently released from prison, complicating everyone’s lives.
