Synopsis
In 1930s London, Jimmy Erskine (Ian McKellen) is the drama critic of the Daily Chronicle and is known for his savage reviews, most recently of actress Nina Land (Gemma Arterton). David Brooke (Mark Strong) has recently taken over the paper and would dearly like to get rid of Jimmy: he seizes his opportunity when Jimmy, who is gay, is arrested one night. Out for revenge, Jimmy lures Nina into a blackmail scheme with deadly consequences.
