Synopsis
Andrzej Żuławski’s Possession begins with the breakdown of Mark and Anna’s marriage in Cold War Berlin before spiralling into paranoia, violence, obsession and increasingly surreal horror.
Starring Isabelle Adjani and Sam Neill, it is an intense, unpredictable cult film that moves between relationship drama, psychological horror and something much stranger.
Additional Info
Obscure Film and Fringe Flicks join forces for a special Halloween-weekend screening of Possession (1981) at 81 Renshaw, Liverpool, closing Scalarama Liverpool 2026.
Doors open at 6:30pm, with the film beginning at approximately 7pm.
The screening is Pay What You Can, with the aim of keeping the event accessible regardless of income.
There’ll also be a few suitably strange additions around the film. After the screening, audience members can choose to enter a Possession scene-recreation challenge inspired by one of the film’s most infamous sequences, with prizes to be won.
A specially commissioned alternative Possession poster, screen printed at Liverpool Community Print Station, will also be available on the night.
Taking part in the additional activity is completely optional. You’re equally welcome to simply come along and watch the film.
