70-year-old widow Mahin (Lili Farhadpour) lives in a comfortable home and has a group of female friends with whom she can share jokes, but with her daughter living far away she is lonely and decides to shake her life up a bit. 70-year-old cabbie Faramarz (Esmaeel Mehrabi) doesn’t spot her when she sits near him at a restaurant frequented by pensioners with state vouchers to spend. She sees him, however, and soon sets in motion a meeting that will prove to be full of welcome surprise for both of them.
WHY WATCH THIS FILM? It’s delightful and heartwarming.
“The film is exceedingly funny, even in translation, right up to the point where the tone shifts dramatically. Deeply endearing on every level, from its anti-authoritarian politics to its body positivity to general joie de vivre, this is a crowdpleaser through and through (unless the crowd happens to be made up of moral policemen and dogmatic clerics).” The Hollywood Reporter
“My Favourite Cake is radical and heartwarming. Above all, it’s a reminder that in a world where everyone is scrutinised and judged, pure love remains timeless.” Time Out
“A rare delight.” The Guardian
