Village Cinema (at Beoley Village Hall)

The Village Hall has a 2800mm x 180mm Academy roller screen, a digital projector, mono sound system a Blu-ray player and a digital projector.

It has the advantage of a large, free car park.

The hall has a kitchen, toilets, tables chairs and a licensed bar. It has been extended three times.

It is situated on a B road between the A441 road that runs from Redditch to Birmingham via Northfield and the A435 that runs between Redditch and Birmingham via Kings Heath. The village has a medieval church, a school and a pub-restaurant in addition to the hall.

We were alerted by an officer at Alvechurch Village Hall, to Cinema For All by a meeting at the Feckenham Village Hall, where there is a very successful village cinema that operates under the name of The Feckenodeon.

We started with a free screening and got local support, which encouraged us to start booking films.

We then showed a documentary film made by a local filmmaker, Brian Becker, "Bhutan, Height of Happiness?" that had previously been exhibited at the Borderlines Film Festival.

We took a poll of audiences who attended other events at the hall and booked the top three choices of films each month over the next three months.

The films chosen were:

"Singin' in the Rain"

"Billy Elliot"

"The Imitation Game".

We are starting a new season of films in 2016 with:

"The Theory of Everything"

"Testament of Youth"

and *The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel" as it stars our Honorary Patron, Dame Judi Dench.

We are a very locally based group and are striving to build audiences.

We would like to have a 3m widescreen that better fits the 16:9 video projector image and have stereophonic surround sound.

We have tables and chairs arranged for the audience so that they can comfortably eat and drink during the showing of the film as happens at many trendy, boutique cinemas.

Research has shown that there is local money available to enable us to adapt the venue to make it feel more like a cinema.

We also have a programme of live jazz events at the hall.
