Wicked Little Letters

Certificate:

Synopsis

The uproariously funny and true story about a series of poison pen letters sent to residents of Littlehampton in 1921. Wicked Little Letters stars Jessie Buckley, Olivia Colman and Timothy Spall is an upending of the period costume drama that’s cheerfully indecent, gloriously naughty, and full of female rage at the expectations women operate under. Funny as hell and bursting with impudent energy.

The Sense of an Ending

Synopsis

Tony Webster (Jim Broadbent) , an ageing Londoner and vintage camera shop owner, whittles down the solitude of his isolated existence by keeping an affectionate relationship with his ex-wife, Margaret (Harriet Walter), and by accompanying his nearly full-term pregnant daughter, Susie, to antenatal courses. However, the unexpected arrival of an unsettling letter will disrupt the delicate balance of things in Tony's orderly life, reconnecting him with his first love from college, Veronica (Charlotte Rampling), and the nostalgic yet clouded memories of a distant past. Now, as Tony scavenges for bits and pieces through flashbacks, more and more, the out-of-focus picture of his youth sharpens; nevertheless, is he ready to face the truth?
Jim Broadbent gives a droll, well-judged performance in this classy adaptation of Julian Barnes’s Booker-winner novel.

Note: The film will be preceded by the Club AGM - this normally takes 20 mins.
