Rochester Picture Palace
Rochester Film Society was formed three years ago with the intention of screening films not usually shown at local cinemas, from Independent British and American, Contemporary World Cinema as well as Documentaries, Avant Garde and Experimental Films; we also screen classics, from musicals and dramas to more obscure classics. We are a member of the British Federation of Film Societies (BFFS) and as such are a not for profit organisation and operate the society in an open and democratic way, with the programming done collectively – We have a number of working groups that lead on programming, marketing and finance. Currently we have screenings every other Tuesday at our pop up cinema -the Rochester Picture Palace at the Huguenot Museum in Rochester High Street and periodically at the Cine Lounge at Sun Pier. The Picture Palace shows world and European cinema and British and American Independent films, whilst at the Cine lounge it’s more cult classics. We have had a number of successful Q&A events with directors, writers and actors from the films we show. There are always introductions to the films and the option for free flowing post-screening discussions, where people can express their thoughts on the films as well as learn from others with opinions over a drink.
