Frome Film Club

Frome Film Club was launched in 2011 as a way of bringing a more diverse range of films to a wider audience in Frome, and to increase interest in and turnout for films at the Merlin Theatre. The club is run by a small group of volunteers, with stewarding provided by the theatre.

The films on the programme are generally picked from recent releases, and our aim is to show films that have not been shown locally or had wide exposure nationally. Two committee members select the films from a long list that they have watched throughout the year, via festivals, screenings, and trips to cinemas outside Frome.

Synopsis

The Taste of Things
Dir: Tran Anh Hung
France 2023 | 135 minutes | Cert 12
French with English subtitles
Both passion and food simmer and smolder in this gorgeous culinary romantic drama from Tran Anh Hùng, the award-winning director of The Scent of Green Papaya. In a warm and busy kitchen of a 19th-century French manor house, gourmet Dodin and his cook Eugénie prepare a lavish four-course meal. Together they have perfected their craft, working in a magical, almost wordless harmony. More than Dodin’s cook, Eugénie is his love, but she won’t marry him.
