I SWEAR (2025)
11th Mar 2026 at 19:30

Certificate:
Synopsis
Director: Kirk Jones
With Robert Aramayo, Maxine Peake, Peter Mullan
Runtime: 120 mins
The true story of John Davidson. Diagnosed with Tourette's at 15, targeted as insane by his peers, he struggled with a condition few had witnessed. Campaigning for Tourette's as a adult, he was awarded an MBE by the Queen in 2019.
WARNING: Strong language though out.
WHY BOOK THIS FILM? For all the reasons given below.
"A terrifically warm, generous film." The Guardian
"It is a drama with three-dimensional people, facing three-dimensional problems and dealing with them... I absolutely loved it." Mark Kermode
"There's a hint of repetition in the mid-section and a schmaltzy third act courtroom scene. But all flaws are overcome by Aramayo's technically precise and heart-rending turn. It's astonishing." The Times
"Just lovely. Tourette syndrome has not been afforded its cinematic dues, but
what an affable, funny character to explore it with in John Davidson -- and what
a performance from Robert Aramayo." Empire

THE CHORAL (2025)
8th Apr 2026 at 19:30

Certificate:
Synopsis
Director: Nicholas Hytner
With Ralph Fiennes, Roger Allam
Runtime: 113 mins
Ramsden, Yorkshire, 1916. The chorus master and most of the men of the ambitious local Choral Society have volunteered for the front, so under the direction of the demanding, driven Dr. Guthrie (Ralph Fiennes), the Choral recruits a crop of teenage boys and girls. Together they discover the joys of singing and the urgency of desire as the new boys come to terms with their imminent conscription into the army.
WHY WATCH THIS FILM? It's a Nicholas Hytner/Alan Bennett collaboration, like The Lady in the Van and The History Boys.
"This wintry tale of art blooming in adversity is far from a schematic feel-good jaunt. Set in the fictional West Riding town of Ramsden in 1916, when young men are being plucked from their community and sent to a front line in Europe they can barely comprehend, it's an anthem for doomed youth in a familiar Bennett key: wry, melancholic, sneakily profound." The Telegraph
"By focusing on a choral society, the film presents a different take on wartime. Whilst it does acknowledge the sadness of the ongoing conflict, the film, through its practicality and light humour, offers a hopeful interlude." The Upcoming

Certificate:
Synopsis
Director: Maryam Moghadam, Behtash Sanaeeha
With Lili Farhadpour, Esmaeel Mehrabi
Runtime: 97 mins
LANGUAGE: PERSIAN WITH SUBTITLES
70-year-old widow Mahin (Lili Farhadpour) lives in a comfortable home and has a group of female friends with whom she can share jokes, but with her daughter living far away she is lonely and decides to shake her life up a bit. 70-year-old cabbie Faramarz (Esmaeel Mehrabi) doesn’t spot her when she sits near him at a restaurant frequented by pensioners with state vouchers to spend. She sees him, however, and soon sets in motion a meeting that will prove to be full of welcome surprise for both of them.
WHY WATCH THIS FILM? It’s delightful and heartwarming.
“The film is exceedingly funny, even in translation, right up to the point where the tone shifts dramatically. Deeply endearing on every level, from its anti-authoritarian politics to its body positivity to general joie de vivre, this is a crowdpleaser through and through (unless the crowd happens to be made up of moral policemen and dogmatic clerics).” The Hollywood Reporter
“My Favourite Cake is radical and heartwarming. Above all, it’s a reminder that in a world where everyone is scrutinised and judged, pure love remains timeless.” Time Out
“A rare delight.” The Guardian

SMALL THINGS LIKE THESE (2024)
12-03-2025 at 19:30

Certificate:
Synopsis
Director: Tim Mielants
With Cillian Murphy, Emily Watson
Runtime: 98 mins
Based on the novella by Claire Keegan. Bill Furlong (Cillian Murphy) is a coal merchant in small-town 1980s Ireland. Everybody in the town knows that the local convent is one of the infamous Magdalene Laundries, but everybody feigns ignorance because the nuns have far-reaching power and influence in the community. When Bill, himself the child of a single mother, finds a bruised and shivering young woman locked in the convent coalshed on a bitterly cold December day, he knows that any action on his part will cost him dear.
WHY WATCHTHIS FILM? The book was very powerful, and the film has had fantastic reviews.
“With Cillian Murphy’s quiet, almost small and yet grand performance carrying the story every step of the way, Small Things Like These is quite possibly the best movie I’ve seen so far this year.” Chicago Sun Times
“Keegan's book was a small masterpiece and so in its way is the film, sensitively adapted by playwright Enda Walsh, gently directed by Tim Mielants, and led beautifully, heartrendingly, by the splendid Murphy.” Daily Mail
“An absorbing, committed drama.” The Guardian

FREUD’S LAST SESSION (2023)
09-04-2025 at 19:30

Certificate:
Synopsis
Director: Matt Brown
With Anthony Hopkins, Matthew Goode
Runtime: 108 mins
Additional Info
It’s the onset of WWII and Sigmund Freud (Anthony Hopkins), who is nearing the end of his life, invites the celebrated Christian author C S Lewis for a debate over the existence of God. Exploring Freud's unique relationship with his lesbian daughter Anna (Liv Lisa Fries) and Lewis' unconventional romance with his best friend's mother (Orla Brady), the film interweaves past, present and fantasy, opening out from the confines of Freud's study on a dynamic journey.
WHY WATCH THIS FILM? Because it’s such an intriguing idea.
“It's a terrific premise, pitting two iconic worldviews against each other to confront ideas about faith, morality and relationships. Director Matthew Brown has made a terrific-looking film, with strong period detail and a witty script. And it's anchored by two riveting performances.” Shadows on the Wall
“Hopkins and Goode give two understated yet impressively precise performances. We have no idea if two of the greatest minds of the 20th century ever met in real life, but that is all beside the point. The result is a film that manages to be full of tenderness and clever repartee.” The Sun

WHY WATCH THIS FILM? Who doesn’t love Paddington?
“A delightful ode to family, as well as the many shapes and sizes that it can come in, Paddington in Peru charms with its lively humour, bright visuals and fundamental belief in the best of people. Its dedication to fun and playful storytelling is surpassed only by its celebration of what makes Paddington Bear so euphoric – that being its championing of acceptance, community and kindness, especially at the expense of prejudice and closed-mindedness.” Cinerama
“A wonderfully fun adventure with all the warmth, humour, and heart fans of this beloved franchise have come to adore. With just the right blend of humour and heartfelt moments, Paddington in Peru is a joyful adventure and a must-see for fans old and new!” HeyUGuys

Director: Edward Berger
With Ralph Fiennes, Stanley Tucci
Runtime: 120 mins
Additional Info
Based on Robert Harris’s best-selling novel about a papal election. Cardinal Lawrence (Ralph Fiennes) is tasked with running this covert process after the unexpected death of the beloved Pope. Once the Catholic Church's most powerful leaders have gathered from around the world and are locked together in the Vatican halls, Lawrence uncovers a trail of deep secrets left in the dead Pope's wake - secrets which could shake the foundations of the Church.
WHY WATCH THIS FILM? It’s a gripping drama.
“Faithfully adapting Robert Harris’s 2016 page-turner about a fictional papal election, director Edward Berger and screenwriter Peter Straughan have constructed a sturdy frame within which their outstanding ensemble of actors can excel. Conclave is an engrossing ecclesiastical hoot which elegantly compresses a prestige-miniseries’ worth of meaty intrigue and lively incident into two brisk hours.” BFI
“Carrying off papal pulp with immaculate execution and career-highlight work from Ralph Fiennes, Conclave is a godsend for audiences who crave intelligent entertainment.” Rotten Tomatoes

Synopsis
Director: Payal Kapadia
With Kani Kusruti, Divya Prabha, Chhaya Pradam
Runtime: 118 mins
SUBTITLED
Additional Info
Prabha, a nurse in Mumbai, is troubled when she receives an unexpected gift from her estranged husband. Her younger colleague and roommate, Anu, tries in vain to find somewhere in the city where she can be intimate with her boyfriend. Hospital cook Parvaty is about to be evicted from her apartment. A trip to a beach town allows them to find a space for their desires to manifest.
WHY WATCH THIS FILM? It’s the first Indian film to receive the Grand Prix at the Cannes Film Festival in 2024.
“All We Imagine as Light is a quiet drama about fragility, beauty and kinship, and what it takes to keep going in ordinary, difficult times. . . It’s worth mentioning upfront that it is also flat-out wonderful, one of the finest of the year.” New York Times
“These are ordinary lives, with small sadnesses, twinging regrets and sparks of joy. But through Kapadia’s empathetic lens we realise that these women, like the city that never entirely feels like home for any of them, contain multitudes.” The Guardian
“Even as she explores age-old themes around displacement and finding yourself, Kapadia's light touch means this is a film that carries you with it, buoying you up and bathing you in its ideas. You emerge feeling lighter and cleansed.” Eye for Film

A COMPLETE UNKNOWN (2024)

Certificate:
Synopsis
Director: James Mangold
With Timothée Chalamet, Ed Norton
Runtime: 141 mins
Additional Info
New York, 1961. Against the backdrop of a vibrant music scene and tumultuous cultural upheaval, an enigmatic 19-year-old from Minnesota arrives with his guitar and revolutionary talent, destined to change the course of American music. He forges intimate relationships with music icons of Greenwich Village on his meteoric rise, culminating in a groundbreaking and controversial performance that reverberates worldwide. Timothée Chalamet stars and sings as Bob Dylan in the true story behind the rise of one of the most iconic singer-songwriters in history.
WHY WATCH THIS FILM? For Chalamet’s impressive performance.
“Mangold’s approach demands a great deal of Mr. Chalamet, and he nails it. Not only does he sound like Dylan when he’s singing, he somehow captures the newness of these moments. It gives the film an electricity that biopics almost always lack, feeling urgent instead of merely like a jukebox that’s been played a hundred times.” Roger Ebert.com
“One of the most complex and convincing interpretations of a real-life musician ever seen on film - imagined in places, perhaps, but nonetheless a cool, charismatic Dylan who should strike a chord with all but the most reticent of his followers.” Radio Times

MR. BURTON (2025)
10-09-2025 at 19:30

Certificate:
Synopsis
Director: Marc Evans
With Harry Lawtey, Toby Jones, Lesley Manville
Runtime: 124 mins
It’s 1942 and Richard Jenkins (Harry Lawtey) is at school in Port Talbot, caught between the pressures of an alcoholic father, a devastating war, and his own ambitions. A new opportunity beckons when Richard’s natural talent for drama catches the attention of his teacher, Philip Burton (Toby Jones). The young man thrives under Philip’s strict tutelage and the guidance of a kindly landlady, Ma Smith (Lesley Manville). But as the acting world comes within Richard’s reach, the burden of his past risks holding him back forever.
WHY WATCH THIS FILM? It’s a gripping account of the back story of Wales’s greatest actor.
“Lawtey effortlessly captures Burton’s silky diction, his swagger, his easy confidence as a performer, but also the bottled-up trauma of his childhood which he attempts to medicate with liquor and which threatens to undo him. While it’s questionable as to whether Richie ever managed to exorcise his demons, that he owes his remarkable career to Philip Burton has never been in doubt — something to which this film pays diligent tribute.” Screen Daily
“The performances from the two leads are impressive, with Lawtey deftly charting Richard’s progress from squeaky adolescent to adored stage smoothie, complete with trademark pout and mellifluous baritone. Jones finds wrenching sadness in the role of a teacher who once dreamt of writing for the stage and sees in Richard a conduit for his own unfulfilled life.” The Times

Director: Guan Hu
With Eddie Peng
Runtime: 110 mins
LANGUAGE: MANDARIN WITH SUBTITLES

While working for the local stray dog patrol team, clearing the town before the 2008 Olympic Games, he strikes up an unlikely connection with a black dog. These two lonely souls now embark on a new journey together.
WHY WATCH THIS FILM? It won the Un Certain Regard award at the 2024 Cannes Film Festival
“Visually, Guan never puts a frame wrong, whether he’s setting up a physical comedy set-piece, idly incorporating a solar eclipse or letting the dogs steal a scene. The result is a quirkily defiant portrait of an unlikely friendship blossoming in the unlikeliest of places.” Eye for Film
“Mixing elements of film noir and western, Guan splices social realism, bone-dry humour and surrealism to beguilingly enigmatic effect.” Radio Times
“Throughout, Guan mixes apparently contradictory visual styles, moving between the vast landscapes of a western and the shadowy claustrophobia of a noir, to tell a story that is both sternly satirical and deftly playful.” BFI

“Love certainly moves in mysterious ways in Four Letters of Love, a handsome, heartfelt adaptation of the Niall Williams’s novel. Gorgeous, sun-dappled Irish locations provide the backdrop to a sweeping narrative propelled by destiny, cosmic intervention and the odd miracle. A generation-spanning ensemble cast led by Pierce Brosnan and Helena Bonham Carter should enhance the appeal of a film squarely aimed at hopeless romantics.” Screen Daily

THE PENGUIN LESSONS (2024)
10-12-2025 at 19:30

Certificate:
Synopsis
Director: Peter Cattaneo
With Steve Coogan, Jonathan Pryce
Runtime: 111 mins
Disillusioned teacher Tom Michell (Steve Coogan) gets a job teaching English and Rugby in a school for rich kids in Buenos Aires. It’s 1976 and Argentina is controlled by a military dictatorship, but Tom is more interested in spending time on the beach than in either his pupils or the political situation. During a weekend trip to Uruguay he rescues an orphaned penguin and smuggles it back into the school, little suspecting that this is the beginning of a personal and political awakening.
WHY WATCH THIS FILM? For the penguin!
“Coogan spikes proceedings with his familiar air of deadpan irony, while Cattaneo (in one of his better outings since landing an Oscar nomination for The Full Monty nearly 27 years ago) mixes broad comic beats with a mollifying dose of yellow-filtered pathos.” Variety
“Cattaneo and Pope manage to balance the tone of a dramatic historical depiction of fascism with a charming animal story and their secret weapon is Coogan. His bone-dry delivery makes it so that the sour is never too sharp and the sentimental is never too syrupy.” Los Angeles Times
“Adapted from Tom Michell’s autobiographical book, The Penguin Lessons counters the inspirational teacher cliches with a bumbling charm that’s boosted considerably by a first-rate performance from the scene-stealing penguin. Peter Cattaneo directs, just about striking a balance between the fluffy sentimentality of the story and its hard-edged political backdrop.” The Guardian

THE BALLAD OF WALLIS ISLAND (2025)

Synopsis
Charles (Tim Key), an eccentric lottery winner who lives alone on a remote island, dreams of getting his favourite musical duo, Mortimer-McGwyer (Carey Mulligan and Tom Basden), back together. His fantasy quickly turns into reality when the bandmates and former lovers accept his invitation to play a private show at his home on Wallis Island. Old tensions resurface as Charles tries desperately to salvage his dream gig.
WHY WATCH THIS FILM? For its charm.
"Prepare for a shock in The Ballad of Wallis Island. The film is a British comedy low in budget and high in whimsy, a combination I for one have learned to dread. And yet the movie is a delight just the right side of zany, perfectly askew." Financial Times
"It dodges rom-com formula at every turn in favour of affable comfy-jumper characters, sprightly one-liners and soothing tunes." The Times
"I loved pretty much every minute of this enormously engaging picture, which reminded me in some ways of Bill Forsyth's 1983 charmer Local Hero." Mail
"Warm, perceptive and quietly life-affirming." Empire

FOUR MOTHERS (2024)
11-02-2026 at 19:30

Certificate:
Synopsis
Director: Darren Thornton
With James McArdle, Fionnula Flanagan
Runtime: 89 mins
Loosely based on Gianni Di Gregorio's hit Italian comedy-drama Mid-August Lunch (2008). Edward (James McArdle), an anxiety-ridden gay man in his thirties, is scheduled for a tour of the US to promote his breakout novel. But his elderly mum Alma (Fionnula Flanagan) is recovering from a stroke, and Edward is her primary carer. To compound his difficulties, his three friends decide to take a weekend break to Gran Canaria for Maspalomas Pride, and dump their own mothers on the doorstep of the small Dublin semi that Edward shares with Alma.
WHY WATCH THIS FILM? For the interactions between the four women.
"Four Mothers hits its stride when it digs into the dynamics between the four women who run Edward ragged with their catering requests and incessant bickering. What could have been a sentimental plodder gets a pleasingly acerbic tang from the bracing cattiness of the dialogue." The Guardian
"A chaotic but sweet and frequently amusing tale as Edward deals with the demands and needs of four very different women, balancing caring for the women alongside participating in increasingly disastrous pre-tour interviews about his book. The audience can sense his panicked air of disbelief at his current predicament, and McArdle wonderfully sells this." Upcoming
