Dornoch Cinema

The dilapidated Dornoch Social Club was renovated in 2009, and a group was formed to start up a community cinema. With initial funding from Scottish Screen and the Highland Council, we acquired a screen, a projector, blu-ray player and sound system. We started showing films in October 2009 - the first was Slumdog Millionaire - and have been showing movies once a month since then. The nearest commercial cinema is 45miles away, and our aim was to provide up to the minute quality films in an informal relaxed setting for the local community. The audience numbers have steadily grown and average from 40-90. We like to be known as the Highland's friendly cinema!

In Jan 2015) we received 50 new chairs from BFI neighbourhood cinema, which are very welcome - very comfortable! Our latest film, Mr Turner, broke box office records with 107 of an audience! We have also at our member's nights started showing shorts from the Aesthetica short film festival, held in November 2014. We hope to show more at future member's nights.
