Bawdeswell Village Cinema
It all started when our community activities group joined with Creative Arts East to put on some films in 2009 & 2010. This experience encouraged us to apply for a grant from Norfolk Community Foundation in 2010 and we were awarded about £2,300 which enabled us to set up in the old Bawdeswell Village Hall. We currently show at least one film per month and have shown over 120 films so far.
Thanks to BFI we have a new projector and 100 new chairs. We also received a grant from the ‘Love Norfolk’ fund through Norfolk Community Foundation for a new, larger, electrically operated screen. We have just put in a ‘surround sound’ system and a hearing aid loop. Our old projector & screen have been passed on to 2 other local village cinemas at Marlingford & Postwick.
We have a very informal and friendly approach with many of our audience treating it as much as a social occasion. We run a small Cafe/ Bar for refreshments throughout the evening.
With an emailing list of over 90 we keep our audience informed and when we get our film list from Moviola we invite those on the list to vote for their preferred films.
Bawdeswell Village Hall has recently been completely rebuilt and you can see images of our new hall by visiting http://bawdeswellvillagehall.co.uk/about/gallery/.
We are part of the Village Hall Charity No 800970 and as such are a non-profit cinema. We aim to keep our ticket prices as low as possible and any surplus is used to improve our facilities.
Last year we introduced a loyalty card scheme with a free film after 7 screenings.
