Alston Moor Film

Rising from the ashes of a defunct film club, we now run monthly screenings, mostly in Alston Town Hall but also at the nearby Garrigill Village Hall.

We dress the premises with table cloths & candles and run a bar. Unusually, for a film club, we show a locally made or relevant short before each commercial movie. Mostly we make these ourselves and have previously completed a full length movie, "Views from the Market Cross". This blended young people acting with old stills, oral history samples and video interviews. Very local filmmaking gives us a small but useful income.

We show movies from the independent sector along with popular recent releases- keeping the changes running. We're at least 20 long and high miles from any "real" cinema & Alston's known as being the highest market town in England - though there's no market!
